Sunshine Adventure Hike 1/1: Catalina State Park New Years🎉☀️⛰️
Let’s enjoy a (possible) double adventure hike on New Year’s Day at Catalina State Park! We will be hiking Romero Pools, with some of us leaving early and heading out towards Romero Pass!
If there is enough interest, we will have an early group start at 7 AM and hike 5 miles out, 2 miles past Romero pools and back. The 8 o’clock group will hike 3.1 miles out to Romero Pools and back. Both groups will be returning to the parking lot around 11:30 AM.
Jon will lead the early group at a decent pace, if you’ve done adventure hikes in the past and kept up pretty well, this will be comfortable. We will need a volunteer to lead the later group, I recommend that pace to be a little more relaxed. We just did Romero Pools for Thanksgiving, it has switchbacks and inclines and it was a moderately challenging adventure hike.
As for all of our adventure hikes, we will be staying together as much as possible, but if things get challenging, please go at your own pace. Please be prepared to turn around and head back safely if that is the case.
We will convene at the trailhead at 6:55 for introductions and begin our hike at 7:00am for the Romero Pass group (7:55 and 8:00 for the Romero Pools group). Expect to return to the parking lot just before 11:30am if you stay with the main group.
It’s free entry day to Catalina State Park! Given that and the holiday, there may be more people there, but with our early starts, I think we will beat the crowds.
Please bring water and sunscreen, hiking poles may be helpful for the rocky incline and decline.
The weather forecast right now calls for mid 50 degrees at the start and mid 60 degrees by the time we finish. Right now there’s a chance of rain, fun way to start the new year!
