Sunshine Social Day Hike Excursion 3/11: Ventana Canyon - The Window 🥾☀️🪟

Let’s tackle a challenging peak out by Ventana Canyon! We will be hiking to the Window and Window Peak via the Ventana Canyon trail.

The trail is a long 13.9 mile out and back with 4520 feet of elevation gain, according to AllTrails. This is a very challenging hike! It’s long and (supposedly) overgrown and has some steep parts before Maiden Pools and then again right before the Window. If you did the recent Maiden Pools adventure hike, it starts the same way and then doubles in length (!) with some amazing views as a reward.

Plan on a 9-9.5hour hike, so please bring 2-3L of water, as well as electrolytes and snacks. While the way back down is not too technical or steep (except in parts), expect to have some tired knees and quads on the descent.

We will be taking breaks along the way. If at any point the climb gets a little tough, no worries, you can hang back and we can pick you up on the return. If you have done adventure hikes in the past and stayed with the main group, you should be able to tackle this one 👍🏻

We will convene at the trailhead at 7am, please aim to be five minutes early so we can all start on time. Last time I myself got a little lost with the trailhead, you pull into Lowe’s Ventana resort and then veer to the left parking lot to the trailhead.

Please bring water and sunscreen, hiking poles may be helpful if you’re comfortable with them. Recent reviews state that there are parts of the trail with a lot of brush, I usually enjoy shorts, but may do long pants for this one.

The weather forecast right now calls for 49 degrees at the start and 75 degrees by the time we finish, warming up but still cool enough for this long hike before the summer temps.

We will be taking pictures and posting them to our group Facebook page. Thank you for your consent to post by joining our hike 😎

Hope to see you out there!

Thanks,
