Sunshine Social Hike 3/15: Tanque Verde Falls 8AM πŸ˜β˜€οΈ

Let’s enjoy a social hike with a beautiful waterfall and some rock scrambling out by Tanque Verde Canyon! We will be hiking the Upper Tanque Verde Falls trail.

This will be an approximately 2 mile hike with around 200 feet of elevation gain and will take us just over an hour and a quarter to complete. We will hike nearly a mile down towards the falls; instead of completing the loop with a steep scramble, we will double back at the falls and make it an out and back to the car.

We will be starting introductions at 8:00am. After intros, we will begin hiking and return to the parking lot just around 9:30am (having taken our customary group picture at the halfway point, of course 😁)

Please bring water and sunscreen, hiking poles may be useful in the rocky parts. This trail has a little incline and some rockiness for a social hike, and it is mostly exposed with no shade.

The weather forecast right now calls for 65 degrees at the start and 72 by the time we finish, warming up! I recommend shorts. We will also have some time to play by the water. This is a dog friendly trail but may be tricky for dogs due to water and scrambling rocks 🐢

Parking available at the Upper Tanque Verde Falls Trailhead. Redington Road is bumpy and rocky, you can make it in a sedan but carpooling in an SUV or high clearance vehicle is highly recommended.

No formal brunch this week, I will be bringing donuts for everyone to enjoy after the hike 🍩

This hike is slightly unique in that we descend from the start and all of the incline comes in the second half. It’s also unique in that this area is known for naked hikers! Let’s all be respectful adults (and keep our clothes on for our group pic, haha)

Please note: there will only be one 8am social hike this week! (not the two 7 and 9am hikes we have been doing). With the Thursday sunset hike and the weather heating up, this may be the start of consolidated social hikes on Sundays. As this is a shorter hike, you can keep hiking the area or play in the water after our social hike if you want to maximize the drive out.

We will be taking pictures and posting them to our group Facebook page. Thank you for your consent to post by joining our hike.

Hope to see you out there 😎

Thanks,
