Intro to Whitewater SUP on the Deschutes

Details

Hey folks,

Unfortunately our last clinic did not fill, but we had some solid interest so we have added some dates. This trip will go on Saturday July 21st. My name is Shane Conrad, and my wife and I own Stout Creek Outfitters here in Sandy and were some of the founding members of this meetup group. We've been teaching paddle sports in the Portland metro area for the past 10 years. If you have been wanting to test the waters of moving current and class I-II whitewater this course is for you. All equipment is provided. We'll cover stroke technique, entering and exiting eddies, whitewater safety, using a quick release leash, and cover basic hydrology. Included is a riverside lunch.

We will be paddling through a high desert canyon from Warm Springs boat ramp to Trout Creek Campground covering about 8 miles. We will also bring a raft along for those who need to take a break, or prefer to take another method of travel downstream.

The Deschutes is a perfect river for SUP as it has plenty of water this time of year! With a weather forecast of upper 80's we should have perfect weather for this outing. We have a fleet of NRS Quiver Whitewater SUPs that provide a stable platform, with plenty of rocker to provide a smooth ride in whitewater. We can also provide a wet suit for extra thermal protection.

We are extending the discount for this course. Cost for this outing is usually $125, but we're offering it to SUP in PDX members for $100 and includes everything listed above. We have space for 8 folks in this outing and need a minimum of 4 paddlers to make the trip a go.

You can sign up through Meetup or you can follow this link to our website to sign up.

If you have any questions give us a call at 503-896-6014 or shoot us an email at info@stoutcreekoutfitters.com

Hope to see you there!

*Stout Creek Outfitters is a registered guide / outfitter with the Oregon State Marine Board, and has a special use permit for the Deschutes River through the BLM-Prineville District.
