What we’re about

Please read to the end. You will be asked to abide by all provisions with your request to join.

Super Seniors organizes opportunities for seniors to socialize with other seniors in Raleigh and surrounding areas. We are all about being positive, having a good time, trying new things, and meeting new people. Basically, be courteous and be kind. No cliques. Sit with different people and make new friends. Margaret B. organizes Super Seniors along with the support of other Assistant Organizers and Event Hosts. If you have questions about the group, you can contact me. Since we have multiple hosts on the Leadership Team, you might see more than one Super Seniors event on the same date at same time. Choose one or none.

What we are not
Super Seniors is NOT a dating site. A member should NOT send messages to individuals he does not know. If a member is reported for sending unwelcome messages to members he/she does not yet know, his/her profile will be immediately inactivated.

Different hosts, different rules
Each host decides the protocol for their hosted events. For events hosted by Margaret, there will be no political discussion as she believes that topic is stressful for many. Ask other leaders what is allowed at each specific event or just refrain from discussions about Politics, religion, and other potentially inflammatory topics.

Late Cancellations and No-shows
If you find you cannot attend an event for which you are signed up, you must change your RSVP for that event to NOT GOING at least 48 hours before the event time Failure to change a RSVP at least 48 hours before event start time or failure to show up for the event will result in member being flagged with a NO SHOW. If a member accumulates 3 NO SHOWS, that member will be removed from the group. HOWEVER, if that member has an extenuating circumstance, he/she can notify the Event Host and the Host will make determination if it was an excused absence in which case the NO SHOW will be waived. (In these times of COVID and Flu, being sick or being exposed to someone who is sick is an acceptable excuse.)
If you are on the WAITLIST, Meetup will automatically notify you if a space becomes available; you should NOT attend the event until your name appears on the Going list for the event. It is your responsibility to periodically check the Going list to see if your name appears—be sure to check on the day of the event. If you are on the WAITLIST and find you would not be able to attend IF your name was reached, you need to change your RSVP to NOT GOING so the next name chronologically on the WAITLIST after yours will receive notice to attend. Not attending, even if your name moves to Going list day of event, may result in a No Show.

Members must:

  1. Include a clear, close-up picture of your face – and only you - so we can recognize you and greet you at events. (If you wear a hat in the photo, please make sure it does not obscure your face.)
  2. Accept all liability for any injuries sustained during an event or in route to an event. All participation is at your own risk.
  3. There are no membership fees to become a member of Super Seniors, but you must pay for your own meals and other expenses required for an event.
  4. Provide your own transportation to events. If you carpool, you should offer your driver money for gas and parking fees. (If you are not a good driver or do not have a reliable vehicle, please do not offer to drive others to an event.) Any contract for transportation is between the driver and his/her passengers and is not the responsibility of Super Seniors or its leaders.
  5. Read the event descriptions thoroughly before you ask a question. Most information (date, time, location, details) are on the event page in Meetup. If you still have questions about an event, you can either post a public comment under that event (like to inquire about carpooling) or send private message to the Event Host for that event.
  6. Keep their notification set to receive notices from organizers about changes to events.
  7. Not wear perfume, after shave, or other scents to Super Seniors events. Some members have allergies to these products.
  8. Not sell or solicit business with other members at group events.
  9. Dress appropriately for the occasion. In most cases this will be slacks, jeans, or shorts (at least almost to the knees)—unless the location or type of event requires special attire, in which case clothing expectations will be posted in details for event. This allows blouses or shirts (button front, pullover, sweater, or polo style) for most events. Clothing should be clean, neat, and respectful—no potentially offensive wording or style.

Yes, the section is long, but we have found it necessary to spell it out. Failure to meet these expectations can result in removal from the group, which will be at sole discretion of the organizers.
