Autogenic Training: Mind-Body Medicine Group Experience
Details
Mind-body medicine is an evidence-based approach used in clinical and community settings around the world. It uses breath, guided imagery, movement, and self-expression to help the body shift out of chronic stress and into a more regulated, resilient state. Learning about it only gets you so far. Practice groups is where it comes alive.
Autogenic training, the didactic we will be exploring tonight, is a way of speaking directly to your autonomic nervous system, using silent phrases and body awareness to shift out of stress and into calm. It is deeply relaxing and you may want to lie down with a blanket and pillow for that part of the session.
During the evening, we will:
- Experience a practice that reduces stress and counteracts the "fight or flight" response
- Practice regulating your autonomic nervous system, the part of you that runs on its own, like heartbeat and digestion
- Explore how this practice can bring symptom relief for a variety of chronic conditions
- Reflect and share with the group, as much or as little as you like
Part of what makes a mind-body group work is the group itself. Being seen and heard without judgment is medicine. For that reason, plan join with your camera on from a private place where you can participate fully.
For those seeking a deeper experience, there is an opportunity to join a full eight-week closed group beginning on November 19th. This evening is a taste, so you can make an informed decision.
Come as you are. Women 18 and older are welcome.
