August Dive Bar of the Month
Details
Thanks to everyone who came out and packed the Kensington Club last month! Let’s do it all again!
This month, for the 8th stop on our 13th Anniversary Dive Bar Tour, we are headed to Loma Portal to Desi’s Bar & Grill, located across the street from Liberty Station Gate 1.
In the late ’90s, the bar was known as the Horse and Cow. It was a rowdy military bar that continued even after the Naval Training Center closed in 1997. In 2001 the owners of the Horse and Cow moved to Washington State. That’s when Desi bought the bar, cleaned it up, and renamed it.
And chances are she’ll be our bartender when we all visit.
Desi’s is a no-nonsense place with a full bar, lots of open space, and two floors to hang out in (both have pool tables.) Angry Pete’s Pizza is located inside the bar and offers pizza, chicken wings, smash burgers, pretzels, and chicken sandwiches. Are you a Detroit fan? They also have bottles of Faygo available. Plan to join us at Desi’s on Wednesday, August 23rd starting at 5 p.m.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
CASH or CARDS? Desi’s takes both.
Parking: Parking can be tricky. All parking is street parking. So consider taking Uber or Lyft.
Food: Angry Pete’s is in the bar and should be available for us that evening. Liberty Station is across the street. Please do not bring any outside food into the bar.
T-shirts: If you ordered an Anniversary Dive Bar shirt, we will have them for you that evening. Contact Ellen to arrange shirt pick-up at a different location if you can’t make it.
