Let's discuss Authority and American Usage & Politics and the English Language

Details

NOTE: The start time is now 5:00 p.m.

We're reading Wallace's second essay collection, Consider the Lobster. Let's discuss Authority and American Usage from the collection as well as George Orwell's Politics and the English Language, which is available here - https://www.orwell.ru/library/essays/politics/english/e_polit

Wallace discusses the Orwell essay in "Authority," and it's a classic that's well worth reading. Of course, if you can't make it all the way through one or both essays, don't let that stop you from joining the discussion!

In my opinion, Authority and American Usage is Wallace's best and most interesting essay, and it's probably his most influential essay as well. If you don't own Consider the Lobster, "Authority" is available here -

Also, please note that we're scheduled to meet on a Saturday this month. If you'd like to come but this date does not work for you, let me know and I'll try to change it.
