July Book Club: The Satsuma Complex

Details

Join us this July at the Surbiton Literary Salon for The Satsuma Complex by Bob Mortimer, a quirky, offbeat mystery that blends dry humour with unexpected poignancy. Set in South London, this debut novel follows a mild-mannered legal assistant as he’s swept into a surreal and twisty adventure involving missing persons, philosophical pub chats, and an elusive woman he can’t forget. Mortimer’s trademark wit and eccentric imagination make this a playful yet surprisingly touching read, ideal for a lazy summer evening of lively discussion!

The Surbiton Literary Salon continues to grow into a vibrant community of book lovers. Whether you’ve read the book cover to cover or just want to soak in the discussion, all are welcome! Expect thoughtful insights, great company, and a warm, bookish atmosphere.

We'll be meeting in the private Simpson Study near the front of the pub, where we’ll discuss the book for about an hour before relaxing with drinks and continuing the conversation informally.

📚 A note on space: The room we use can hold a maximum of 12 people. Since many of our regular attendees don’t RSVP via Meetup, we’re making just 5 spots available to new members through this page to avoid going over capacity. If you're unable to attend, can you please cancel your RSVP to open up space for someone on the waiting list? Thank you for understanding—we just want to make sure everyone has a seat and a good experience! Once you attend, you'll be invited to join our WhatsApp group.

✨ New members welcome – no need to have attended before. Join us for an evening of great books and lively conversation. We look forward to seeing you there!
