A new non-fiction book club in Surbiton!
Hosted at my flat on Grove Road, this is a monthly opportunity to discuss and a non-fiction work in a stimulating atmosphere (additional stimulus provided by coffee!).
Book choice: ‘Nudge’, by Thaler & Sunstein. The authors coined the term ‘benevolent paternalism’ to explain their benign interventionist approach, emphasising the key role of ‘choice architects’ in making it easier for people to make decisions in their own interests. One memorable example is how a simple target reduced urine spillage in men’s toilets! A bit of a classic that has even spawned its own government unit, come ready to debate, discuss, disagree!
The structure will be a discussion of the book that will develop into a wider conversation.
