NOTE: THIS GROUP IS ABOUT BITCOIN ONLY, NOT ALTCOINS.

When a pseudonymous programmer introduced “a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party” to a small online mailing list in 2008, very few paid attention. Ten years later, and against all odds, this upstart autonomous decentralised software offers an unstoppable and globally-accessible hard money alternative to modern central banks.¹

I've been fascinated by the power and incredible potential of Bitcoin since 2012. I'm keen to get connected locally with like-minded individuals and organise regular gatherings open to anyone with an interest in Bitcoin. In particular, I'd like to focus on Bitcoin's potential to transform our world with a new monetary system that is decentralised, apolitical and a free-market alternative to national central banks. The possibility of shifting the pendulum of sovereignty away from governments in favour of individuals, offering us the tantalising possibility of a world where money is fully extricated from politics and unrestrained by borders.¹

Possible topics:
(₿) What Bitcoin is and how it operates as a decentralised, distributed piece of software
(₿) This history of money and why money is so important to society
(₿) Securing your bitcoin
(₿) How to safely buy/sell Bitcoin
(₿) Lightning Network
(₿) Mining
(₿) How to run a full node
(₿) How to avoid being scammed, robbed or misled
(₿) Trustworthy Bitcoin resources and who to follow
(₿) How to get involved/work in Bitcoin
(₿) Privacy and its importance to an open and free society
(₿) Building on Bitcoin
(₿) Austrian Economics
(₿) Key Bitcoin topics such as: Cryptography, Game Theory, Macroeconomics, Psychology, Distributed Systems
(₿) Is Bitcoin mining a waste of energy? Is Bitcoin for criminals? Who controls Bitcoin, and can they change it if they please? How can Bitcoin be killed? And what to make of all the thousands of Bitcoin knock-offs, and the many supposed applications of Bitcoin’s ‘blockchain technology’?

As this is a new group, I'm open to ideas, support and feedback.
