Sunday: Park & Watershed Cleanup, Laguna Grande Park by Monterey Water Keepers

Monterey Bay's watersheds and beaches are stewarded by community members & volunteers just like you! Join Surfrider Monterey & Monterey Waterkeeper to cleanup Laguna Grande park before the winter rains wash trash down to the coast.

In collaboration with Monterey Waterkeeper, we will be conducting water quality testing in the creek and lake in the park. California Green Business Network will be on hand to teach us about how our watersheds connect our communities to our estuaries, beaches, and oceans. With support from the City of Monterey, volunteers will also have the opportunity to help plant 6 new native trees in the park which will help create shade, stabilize soil, and combat climate change at a local level.

Join us at 11 AM for a FREE yoga followed by a park cleanup from 12 - 2 PM. Bring your friends and family to make a difference for our community & Monterey Bay!

Though we won't be cleaning up a beach, our work to remove trash from the park and around the lake will keep pollution from washing downstream to the beach.

We have been absolutely blown away by the incredible impacts all of our volunteers are having along the Monterey shoreline in recent months and we're so stoked you can join us for this special event!

BRING YOUR FRIENDS:

LOCATION & PARKING:
We will have our tent set up on the southwest side of Laguna Grande Park near the volleyball court and playground at the intersection of Montecito Ave. and Virgin Ave. in northern Monterey. There is a free parking lot and free street parking. Please consider walking or riding your bike to this cleanup - it is very close to the recreation trail.

REDUCE, REUSE:
We recommend you bring your own reusable work/garden gloves and a reusable bag or bucket for the trash you collect. We’ll provide the large trash bags for you to empty your bag or bucket into when you’re finished. Your reusable “cleanup kit” will help us reduce the amount of trash we ultimately dispose of at the end of the cleanup. If you don't have these items, we will happily provide them for you!
