Walk: St Marthas, Chantries, Albury Down and Silent Pool
Details
Join SABRE walk leader George for a varied scenic walk through the Surrey Hills. Starting from Newland Corner Visitor Centre, we will head across the downs and up to St Martha's Hill to see the lovely, reconstructed church with great views looking towards the South Downs. Coming down from the hill we will loop round the wooded area of The Chantries, with a surprise view on route! We continue our return past Chilworth Manor and the vineyards - should see some alpacas on route. There is then an ascent up to Pilgrims Way passing by WWII pillboxes, and a stop for a picnic lunch. After lunch we walk along the open area of Albury Downs to Silent Pool before an ascent up to the North Downs Way and return to Newlands Corner.
We will walk at a moderate pace and there are 3 ascents on route. It may be muddy in a few parts if there has been recent rain and walking boots are recommended. The length of the walk is about 10 miles
Meet at the Newlands Corner visitor centre just off the A.25. Nearest postcode is GU4 8SE. We will start the walk at 10:00am. Please be ready to walk by 9:55. If you arrive early you can join me for a snack and coffee at the Newlands Corner café.
