Hankley Common & Thursley (9.0 miles)

Details
starting on the edge of Hankley Common walking along bridle paths, woodland, open heathland and boardwalk across Thursley Common voted England’s favourite walk for 2024 to Ockley Common. We then go through the pretty hamlet of Thursley with historic houses into woodland onto MOD land and open space of Hankley Common with far reaching views.
There are 2-3 steep inclines and 1 descent so boots essential and poles recommended.
Note there are no facilities or refreshments en route so packed lunch and plenty of drinks and snacks are required.
Tree roots in places, short section of road walking, uneven paths with some sandy heathland and stony sections. Note start is from Hankley Upper carpark. Allow time to find it if not been before as it is up a small tarmac lane.
Further details can be found on the Surrey Heath Ramblers program page https://www.ramblers.org.uk/find-a-walk.aspx?layer=walks&tab=walks&group=SR15
This walk is also advertised on the Surrey Heath Ramblers web site (www.surreyheathramblers.org.uk) so there will be more walkers attending than is shown on Meetup. Typically we walk with between 15 and 25 people.
Our walks start promptly and it is recommended that you arrive 15 minutes early to get booted ready for the walk.
If you are unable to attend please remove yourself from the event and text the walk leader so that they are aware that you won't be attending.
As a non member of Ramblers you can attend 3 walks to try us out, after that you are required to join the Ramblers to continue walking with us.
This walk will be led by Helen who can be contacted on 07825 216098.
