North Waltham and Steventon (6.5 miles)

Details

In celebration of the life and works of Jane Austen born 250 years ago.

A leisurely undulating walk through farmland, beautiful countryside and open fields. There are three short inclines, a few steps but no stiles. A few of the paths are rather overgrown. There are two sections, at the start and end of the walk, which are along quiet country lanes, approximately a mile in total.

Jane Austin spent the first 25 years of her life in Steventon. We stop at St Nicholas Church where Jane attended regularly.

Jane's father George Austen, two of her brothers James and Henry, and her nephew William Knight (the son of her brother Edward, were all Rectors of Steventon, in fact members of the Austen family were Rectors of Steventon from 1759 to 1873, a period of 114 years, more than any other family in the history of the church

We leave promptly at 10am. Please arrive in good time to put on boots etc. and for registration. Please let us know if you do not have an ICE (in case of emergency card) or information on your phone.
