Fourteenth Meetup:

Details

Dear All,

I am pleased to invite you to our Fourteenth Sussex Data Science Meetup. As is the way of things at the moment, this meeting has moved online and will be conducted remotely via zoom.
We will close the meeting with open discussions and announcements from the membership. For Aprils's event, we are lucky to have Dr Melanie Ades, a Scientist at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, talking to us about:

The use of Satellite Data in the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service
_____________________________________________________________________________________

The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) provides consistent and quality-controlled global information related to air pollution and health, solar energy, greenhouse gases and climate forcing. One of the main products is a five day forecast of air quality. This forecast is produced using a chemical model run as part of a numerical weather prediction system on a high performance super computer. To initialise this forecast an understanding of the current air quality is required and satellite data provides the main source of information. However, both the form and quantity of satellite data necessitates various methods of data manipulation in order to meet the requirements of an operational system. @Mel_Ades
