Sussex Data Science is Back in Person and Online!

Welcome to our first event of 2024!

Join us for our February Meetup featuring Prof. Luc Berthouze and Minal Bhoslae.

Prof. Luc Berthouze will talk about " Neuroscientific perspective on the monitoring of large scale communication networks".

In this talk, I will discuss how we are leveraging and adapting methods typically used to understand another large-scale complex system - the brain - to (a) detect unknown, unseen and continuously changing inter-dependencies and (b) exploit this knowledge to develop scalable and data-driven approaches for anomaly detection and root cause analysis in both large-scale networks and microservice architectures.

Our second speaker will be Minal Bhosale, who will share about " Utilising AstroCast for drought prediction in Marathwada".

Marathwada has historically experienced recurring droughts, leading to severe socioeconomic and agricultural consequences. By leveraging the AstroCast pipeline, which was used for drought prediction in Kenya, we can significantly improve the ability to forecast droughts in selected region and implement proactive measures like drought early warning systems to mitigate their impact. The talk will cover a brief explanation of how AstroCast works and then will delve in a detailed explanation of
setting up early warning system in Marathwada.

We will begin the evening with time to chat over pizza and drinks, then start the talks at 18:30. If you can't make it in person you can still watch via the live stream which will start around 18:30.
