Extending industrial networks to support transition to responsible consumption a

Hi Everyone, as the Director of CRIJT and a member of the Smart Mobility Unit of the University of Hertfordshire I have been asked to deliver a presentation on:

Novel circular business models which convert consumption from the use of consumers’ own products to service user are frequently designed and implemented in strategic niches, or “living labs”, often with support from Government and Academia and considerable resource investment. These innovations are the result of collaborative research and are supported by interconnected networks. One example of such innovation is Mobility as a Service (MaaS), an offering which enables users to book, manage and pay for diverse means of transport accessed as an integrated service. The problem is that often these business models fail to scale up in the “real economy”. A developing research proposition suggests that the networks that support these service innovations in protected niches fail to extend and develop alternative networks in the real world. Maurizio Catulli, from the Smart Mobility Unit of the University of Hertfordshire and director of the Centre of Research In Just Transitions (www.crjt.org ), discusses why these transitions fail and suggest possible remedies. The research is part of a project which will be submitted to the European Social Research Council for funding and participants will have opportunity to contribute criticism and advice.
