Sustainable JC is hosting a Bokashi workshop as part of the Community Composing Exchange pilot with JC Moms and the P.E.A.C.E. Community Garden.
In this workshop, you will learn about Bokashi, make the fermentation starter and take some of the fermentation starter home with you to begin your own Bokashi process. The St. Paul's P.E.A.C.E. Community Garden is the first site of Sustainable JC's Community Composting Exchange and you will learn more about how to participate in expanding this community element. Thank you to Rachelle Migdal of Weichert Realtors for sponsoring this program.

Bokashi is a Japanese method of recycling food waste by means of fermentation. With Bokashi, it's easy to discard meat, fish, dairy and even bones right in your kitchen without a compost bin, backyard or creating unpleasant smells. Similar to the process used to make wine, this system relies on fermentation to decompose the matter rather than putrification, so no offensive odor is produced. In two weeks, the fermentation process is complete and the nutrient-rich matter can be buried in a community garden, in your backyard, or potted plants to help improve physical, chemical and biological environments in the soil.
To find us, walk or drive up the driveway along side the church, on Hoboken Ave. The workshop will be held in the Community Center - the building behind the church, to the left of the Sharing Place Food Pantry. Feel free to park anywhere in the lot at the top of the driveway.
There is a $10 fee for the workshop.
