Howdy!
We’ll be completing the Overlook via West and East trails adding in Pigeon Hill for a total of about 5.5 miles. Maybe a pinch more. So, starting at the visitor's center, we will hike to Pigeon Hill first; then over Little Kennesaw Mountain, and then onto Kennesaw Mountain Peak and down to the visitor's center where we started.
Please note this is a moderate hike and has some good elevation to it as well as its share of rocks and roots on the trail to navigate …
Our pace will be from 2.5 - 3 MPH. Please give careful consideration to this pace before joining the hike as it is rather brisk. We will take a couple of short breaks along the way.
We will meet outside the entrance to the visitor’s center. I do start events on time out of consideration for all the attendees. So please be prompt and plan to arrive a little early otherwise you may have some ketchup to do.
Using google maps the pin in the event will show you the spot where we will meet, but it may not be where you will need to park.
IMPORTANT PARKING NOTE: the lot near the visitor center is small and fills up quickly, so you may need to use the overflow lot off Old Hwy 41. Doing so will require some extra time to walk to the visitor’s center. So, again, please give yourself some extra time to arrive, park, and get to the meetup spot as this park gets crowed on weekends with outdoorsy people like us.
Kennesaw Mountain has a day parking fee of $5.00, unless you have a NPS pass or annual pass to the park. Day passes can be bought at the visitor’s center, online in advance using the link below, or online upon arrival using your smartphone. I suggest using the link below and buying in advance if you don't already have an annual pass to save time.
Doggies are permitted on this trail and welcome/encouraged to attend. But please leave your cannon at home. And yes, I know I said ketchup instead of catch-up above 😉
