Swansea 20s & 30s Socials

For this one we’re heading to the western edge of the Brecon Beacons. This is a spectacular circular route that takes us to a legendary glacial lake and up onto the high ridges for some of the best views in Wales.

The Plan: We’ll start with a steady climb up the gravel path to the lake. From there, we’ll take the steep path up onto the ridge. We’ll walk along the top of the cliffs (the escarpment) with the lake below us, before descending the grassy slopes back down to the river and the cars.

Details:

• Distance: ~5 miles.
• Duration: ~3 - 3.5 hours.
• Terrain: A mix of gravel tracks, steep mountain paths, and grassy ridges.
• Footwear: Hiking boots are essential. The ridge can be windy and the ground uneven.

What to Bring:

• Packed Lunch: We’ll eat our lunch somewhere with great views!
• Warm Layers & Raincoat: Even if it's warm in Swansea, it can be significantly colder and windier on the mountain ridges.
• Water: Bring plenty to stay hydrated during the climb.

Meeting Point & Car Sharing:

Option 1: Central Carpool — Guildhall Car Park (SA1 4PE) (For those who would like a lift and to share petrol and parking costs)

• Meeting Time: 8:30 AM
• Details: Meet at Guildhall Car Park (free weekend parking). Both pickup and drop-off after the hike will be at Guildhall. We will group up into as few cars as possible to head down together.
• Fuel/Parking Contribution: Passengers are asked to bring £4 cash (or quick bank transfer) to give directly to their driver to split fuel and parking costs.

Option 2: Direct at Llyn y Fan Fach

Post-Hike Social: We’ll head to The Red Lion, Llangadog (SA19 9AA) on the way back for a celebratory drink and a chance to relax after the hike.

📚✨ A new book club is starting! ✨📚

As we begin to approach Autumn, it’s time to get some regular cosy events on the cards!

We will be starting our very own 20-30s book club for those of you who love to chat about the books you have read. We will get together each month to share thoughts about the book we have read. We will take it in turns to recommend a book for the following month, with the possibility of doing some book swaps too!

To get the ball rolling, we will start with a small get together on the 2nd September. Fitting for book club, our first event will be held at the city centre library (Y Storfa), 5:30-7pm. This will give us a chance to get to know some genre preferences and set the first book we will read as a group. There is nothing to bring to this event, just yourself!
