Global Day of Coderetreat: Málaga

Details
Despite our profession requiring continuous and rigorous practice to deliver real value, there are very few opportunities that allow us to acquire the skills necessary to achieve technical excellence. That's why this year, Codurance is once again joining the Global Day of Coderetreat. Alongside the Santander Corporate & Investment Banking and their Digital Services department, they'll provide you with a safe space to put our software passion into practice and enhance our skills among friends!
IMPORTANT: The workshop will be done in English, and it is essential that you register at the following link.
PLEASE NOTE that seats are LIMITED (maximum capacity of 50 people), so please make sure you are available to attend the event on November 4th.
¿What is a Coderetreat?
A Global Day of Coderetreat is a one-day event dedicated to intensive software design practice. Far from the daily work pressures, this format aims to promote best practices within the industry and ensure a rich learning experience. Many of the technical practices for designing quality software are part of Extreme Programming, so on this day, you can expect a lot of Test-Driven Development, pairing, and other typical XP practices.
¿How does it work?
The GDCR consists of 4-5 sessions, and the learnings from each session refer to what was explained in the previous ones. In the morning, we will focus on getting acquainted with the problem domain, breaking old habits, and initiating a process of self-discovery. In the afternoon, we will delve deeper and challenge each pair of crafters to enhance their skills in abstractions, modular design, and Test-Driven Development (TDD). Want to know more? Here is their experience from two years ago.
The Coderetreat follows a tested format that is optimised for intensive practice. We will work on implementing Conway's Game of Life in 45-minute sessions. In each session, you'll do pair programming in the language of your choice, using the technologies you and your partner decide on. Get ready to get your hands a bit dirty and have fun while practising quality code development.
You will need to bring your laptop with a:
- Code editor/IDE
- Git for version control
- An empty project with a failing test case (e.g., kata-bootstraps)
We will start at 9:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM. The idea is to have breakfast together to get to know each other a bit. We'll make sure there are tasty treats to eat. We start early, so make sure to get a good night's sleep to help those brain juices flow ;)
