Sunset Watching & Full moon bike ride on Casey Key (14 miles r/t)

Details

This will be our second night ride because it was so much fun the first time! Please read the entire event description so that you know what to expect.

Join us for sunset watching and a bike ride not only at full moon, but even better at Harvest Moon! This will be the last Supermoon of the year.

Please use the parking lot at the very end of S. Casey Key Rd., it will be open until midnight (in contrast to the earlier North Jetty Park parking lot that closes at 10 PM).

Let's meet on the beach to the right of the jetty at 06:45 PM for sunset watching. Bring along beach chairs or blankets, snacks and drinks if you like. Sunset will be at 07:18 PM. The moon should be visible by then.

After sunset and when it starts to get dark we will return to our cars, store our belongings and get our bikes ready.

IMPORTANT: We will not leave the parking lot before it is entirely dark!! except the moon which should be bright by then (depending on weather conditions). Kick-off is likely around 08:00 PM. This way beachgoers, boaters and fishermen/-women should be gone and we won't face car traffic.

The casual night ride will take us to Casey Key Fish House on the north end of Casey Key where we will take a break. The restaurant and nearby bar will be closed by then, so it will be quiet. We should be able to see the moonlight reflecting on the Intracoastal.

There will be minimal light pollution along the way as there are no street lights. All we will see are picturesque illuminated entryways of the nearby mansions as well as their flowers and trees.

This ride will be very enjoyable and safe. Our bike lights will be visible from afar and in fact, we were probably safer than during the day the first time we did the whole thing. We still have to go single file as the road is quite narrow but traffic should be very minimal (we only encountered a handful of cars during the entire ride).

After the break we will head back, turn right until we reach the property of Stephen King and finally return back to the parking lot facing the moon.

We could still hang out around the parking lot for drinks and conversation after the ride if we like. Benches facing the moon will be close by.

Total distance is only about 14 miles but enough for a little exercise and a wonderful experience.

Don't forget to bring along sufficient water and your bike lights. A lock won't be necessary.
