Drinks & Sunset Watching at Pop's + Full Moon Bike Ride on Casey Key (14 miles)

Details

This will be a special night out if weather permits! Join us for sunset watching and a bike ride at full moon!

May 12th's full moon is called the "Flower Moon" because it's associated with the abundance of flowers blooming during that month. This name is attributed to the Algonquin people of eastern Canada and was later adopted by early European settlers. Some cultures also associate it with the beginning of corn planting, symbolizing renewal and growth.

07:15 PM: Let's meet at the bar of Pop's Sunset Grill for drinks and sunset watching. (North Jetty will still be closed to traffic). You can find us if you go straight ahead from the restaurant's entrance. The bar area will be first come first serve, we do not reserve tables for this event. It should not be too busy that night.

Please use the overflow parking lot (left of Circuit Road at the corner of Lindis Lane) BEFORE you get to the restaurant's main parking lot! We received permission to park our cars there until we are finished with our bike ride although Pop's will be closed by then. Do not park on the right side of Circuit Road in front of the marina unless you want to get towed!

Sunset will be at 08:10 PM and shortly thereafter we will return to our cars, store our belongings and get on the bikes.
The moon will rise at 08:29 PM.

08:40 PM: We will take off for the full moon ride.

It will be dark by then but the moon should be bright (depending on weather conditions).
Beachgoers should be gone and traffic will be very light, making it very safe to ride in the dark with our bike lights on. We will be highly visible, even from a long distance.

We will start our night ride going south as far as we can and then return to the north end of Casey Key where Stephen King has his property. Once there, we will turn around and head to the parking lot at Casey Key's Fish House which will close by 09:00 PM.

From the parking lot and the nearby pier we should be able to enjoy the full moon and its reflexion over the Intracoastal Waterway.

After the break we will ride back to where we started facing the moon. We should be back by around 10:30 PM or so.

Total distance will be around 14 miles. Our ride will be very casual in nature as we want to enjoy our surroundings. It won't be a race but enough for a little exercise. If you are in a hurry, you will be on your own. Just let us know in advance if you decide to head back.

Don't forget to bring along sufficient water and your bike lights. A lock won't be necessary. Check your bikes (and lights) before the ride.

As always, if you have questions or need directions, you can contact us at (917)774-0941.
