Sunset Watching + Full Moon Bike Ride on Casey Key (16 miles r/t)

This will be a special night out if weather permits! Join us for sunset watching and a bike ride at full moon! Bring your own drinks and snacks if you like.

August 9th's full moon is called the "Sturgeon Moon" because it's associated with the sturgeon fish, which are traditionally caught in August.
We will meet at 07:45 PM at the parking lot in the back of First Horizon Bank (1099 N Tamiami Trail, accessible from Laurel Rd).

There is plenty of parking space and no private property or tow zone sign.

From there we will ride our bikes for about 15 minutes to North Jetty (bring along your bike locks) and watch the sunset at the beach. Sunset will occur at 08:14 PM.

At 08:45 PM we will take off for the full moon ride.

It will be dark by then and the moon will be rising about the same time.
Beachgoers should be gone and traffic will be very light, making it very safe to ride in the dark with our bike lights on. We will be highly visible, even from a long distance.

We will start our night ride going to the north end of Casey Key where Stephen King has his property. Once there, we will turn around and head to the parking lot at Casey Key's Fish House which will be closed already.

From the parking lot and the nearby pier we should be able to enjoy the full moon and its reflexion over the Intracoastal Waterway.

After the break we will ride back to where we started facing the moon. We should be back by around 10:30 PM or so.

Total distance will be around 16 miles. Our ride will be very casual in nature as we want to enjoy our surroundings. It won't be a race but enough for a little exercise. If you are in a hurry, you will be on your own. Just let us know in advance if you decide to head back.

Don't forget to bring along sufficient water and your bike lights. A lock will also be necessary. Please check your bikes (and lights) before the ride.
