Hike the other side of Myakka River State Park (10 miles +) - includes picnic
Details
Let's be a little adventurous and check out a new hike with us! We will have to limit the number of participants to 10 as we will have to get a permit.
Please be in front of the gate of Myakka River State Park at 07:30 AM, so we are first in line to get in and walk into the ranger station (the building where you will pay the entrance fee for the park).
We will have to get a permit for our hike, total number for the day is limited to 30. They are usually in high demand during the season! Remember that campers might already line up in front of the ranger station before the gate even opens.
Once we have the permit, we will drive inside the State Park to Powerline Rd. and park our cars parallel to the road. This is where we will start our hike.
Instead of hiking the usual, we will turn right and head towards the back end of Lower Myakka Lake and Deep Hole. This area is teeming with alligators during the winter months and we will likely see a lot of them.
Somewhere along the way we will take a break and have a little picnic.
Please bring your own food, drinks and something to sit on.
We will return the same way.
Total length of the hike will be around 10.5 miles or slightly more if we decide to explore the area in detail.
Please bring along comfortable hiking shoes, plenty of water, a little picnic, bug spray and protect yourself from the sun!
As always, if you have questions or need directions, you can contact us at (917)774-0941.
