Hello fellow hikers, get up early, grab your hiking shoes and join us for a wonderful 10.5 mile hike within the Duette Preserve that starts at sunrise.

The loop will last about 4.5 hours including stops and two breaks along the way. We will take the first break at a shady pavilion among century old oak trees. The second break will be made at a lookout, about 8 miles into the hike. Two miles later we will have to get our feet wet as we will cross the East Fork of the Manatee River (don't worry, there are no alligators and you feet will appreciate the cool and clear water).

The trail will mainly be on firm underground (as we follow unpaved roads) with occasional patches of grass and soft sand. There will be little shade along the way. It is essential to carry sufficient water (one small bottle is not enough), sunscreen, a snack if you like and comfortable hiking shoes.

At over 21,000 acres, the Duette Preserve is the largest Preserve in Manatee County. It contains the headwaters of Manatee River. If we are lucky, we will see some wildlife. The Preserve is home to a variety of animals, including at least three endangered/threatened species. Among them are the Florida panther and the Eastern indigo snake.

This will be a social event and no race! If you are in a hurry, this event is not for you. Please don't schedule anything right after the hike as it might take longer than expected.

You can text or call us @ (917)774 -0941 if you have any questions or need further directions. PLEASE CLICK ON THE MAP UNDER THIS EVENT TO FIND US. CELL PHONE RECEPTION CAN BE SPOTTY OUT THERE.
