NEW EVENT: Bike Osprey Junction Trailhead to New College of Florida (39 miles)
Details
Let's try something new!! Please read the entire event description before you sign up!
Today's bike ride was split into 3 events that differ by distance, starting time and location. Total length will be 39, 28 or 18 miles r/t. You can choose whatever you feel comfortable with. Average speed will be 10 to 12 mph independent of the distance.
Those who pick the longest distance will meet the next group 30 minutes later. They will then bike to meet the group that picked the shortest distance. All 3 groups will ride at least 18 miles together, so plenty of time to socialize.
The Ride: 39 miles r/t
07:50 AM: Let's meet at Osprey Junction Trailhead (939 Bay St, Osprey)
We will not be able to wait if you are late because of traffic or other reasons.
08:00 AM: Kick-off.
We will ride the Legacy Trail 5.9 miles to Ashton Trailhead
08:30 AM: We will pick up the second group that chose the medium distance of 28 miles r/t and ride another 4.8 miles to Pompano Trailhead.
09:00 AM: Short break for the first two groups. Meet the third group that picked the shortest distance of 18 miles r/t.
09:15 AM: All three groups will ride together the remainder of the Legacy Trail. Once we hit Ringling Blvd., we will meander through some neighborhoods before we take a short break at Bay Park (best public restrooms in town). From there we will ride through the area around Van Wezel, Centennial Park, Whitaker Gateway Park, Indian Beach and Sapphire Shores.
10:45 AM: Our destination for the day will be Mama G's at New College of Florida. This coffee shop is located in a cute little house and has plenty of in- and outdoor seating. Food is limited to pastries, muffins etc. but they offer coffee and other drinks. Feel free to bring your own snacks if you like.
Mama G's has several locations in our area, check out this link: More about Mama G's
11:30 AM: After a lengthy break we will return a slightly different way via Bayfront-, Laurel- and Payne Park.
This event will be a social event and no race. Please don't schedule anything right after, as it might take longer than expected. If you are in a hurry, you will have to ride back on your own.
Please make sure you carry plenty of water, protect yourself from the sun and check your bike BEFORE the ride.
