Details
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE YOU SIGN UP !!
This getaway is supposed to be a social event and involves an overnight stay in Sanford, a picturesque town with a historic center at Lake Monroe.
We will stay for two nights from Tuesday, March 24th to Thursday, March 26th. Accommodations are mostly AirBnB style (some with the ability to share) but you will find a wide range of hotels within a 15 mile radius if you prefer. In any case, you might want to book your accommodations soon.
However, if you do not want to spend two nights in a hotel or any other accommodation, you can still sign up for each or any of the three days individually.
If you want to do several days, please sign up for each day separately so that we know whom to expect.
3 Day Getaway (Day 3):
Load your bikes onto the car, we will drive a few miles to the trailhead right after breakfast!
07:30 AM: Breakfast at Colonial Room Restaurant, 105 E 1st Street, Suite A.
The informal restaurant serves Southern fare in a homey, old-school atmosphere. Breakfast is obviously optional, depending on your type of accommodation.
08:45 AM: Meet at Osteen Trail Head, 141 - 199 New Smyrna Blvd, Osteen
It is about 15 minutes by car to get there from the breakfast place.
09:00 AM: Kick off for the bike ride on the East Central Regional Rail Trail.
This time we will ride in the opposite direction for about 25 miles r/t at a casual pace of 10 - 12 mph.
Along the way will be visiting the historic DeBary Hall in DeBary. The mansion was the winter retreat of a European-born wine merchant who chose the St. Johns River country for his hunting estate in the 1870s. We will stroll the grounds and take some pictures.
Our destination for the day will be the picturesque Gemini Springs Park.
After a walk around the park we will return through Historic Enterprise and stop at Green Springs Park. The park is home to pristine nature, a few trails we might walk on and one of Florida's green Sulfur springs.
We will then ride back to our cars. We should be there around 02:00 PM or so, depending on the time we spend for sightseeing.
Those who want to skip lunch can head back home right away.
Those who want to hang around for lunch can obviously do so. We can discuss restaurant choices.
Please bring along sufficient water, a snack if you like and check your bikes before the ride.
As always, if you have questions or need directions, you can contact us at (917)774-0941.
