Punta Gorda and Charlotte Harbor
Details
We have not done this ride since April 2024 and the beautiful Charlotte Harbor is not to be missed. It is Florida’s second-largest open-water estuary, spanning approximately 270 square miles and is fed by the Peace and Myakka rivers.
Punta Gorda is located on the south shore of Charlotte Harbor where the Peace River ends and the small city is known for its active cycling community. This ride will comprise of approximately 25 miles over primarily paved surfaces. The Route will cover the waterfront trail, other trails and streets in the downtown and residential canal areas of Punta Gorda. The ride will include the beautiful 2 ½ mile Harborwalk shared trail running along the Charlotte Harbor, Southern County Regional Park, Ponce DeLeon Park and other parks.
We will also have a stop at the Fishermen’s Village, a premier waterfront destination on Charlotte Harbor, featuring over 30 boutique shops, restaurants and bars. While there, we will have lunch at the Village Brewhouse, overlooking Charlotte Harbor. We will allow some limited time for shopping in the boutiques; bring a bag for your bike or backpack to transport any treasures you purchase.
Please allow sufficient time to get to the ride start, given this ride is on a weekday. There are nice indoor washrooms at the ride-start / ride-end, that we expect will be open while we are there.
