Sunset Watching & Full Moon bike ride on Casey Key (16.6 miles r/t)

This will be a special night out if weather permits! Join us for sunset watching and a bike ride at full moon.

This full moon is referred to as "Buck Moon". The name comes Native American tribes because it coincides with the time of the year when male deer begin to rapidly grow and shed their velvety new antlers.

We will now meet at the northwestern end of the Publix parking lot at the corner of Laurel Rd. W and N Tamiami Trail.

07:30 PM: We will leave on time and ride our bikes for about 2.5 miles to the North Jetty Beach to watch the sun set at 08:20 PM.

The full moon will already rise a few minutes earlier. For about 30 minutes the moon should seem to be larger when it rises from the horizon.

We will start our ride once it is fairly dark outside, latest at around 08:40 PM. The moon should be bright by then (depending on weather conditions).
Once we are past Nokomis Beach (where the weekly drum circle will take place), Beachgoers should be gone and traffic will be light, making it very safe to ride in the dark with our bike lights on. We will be highly visible, even from a long distance.

The ride will take us to the north end of Casey Key where Stephen King has his property. Once there, we will turn around and head to the parking lot at Casey Key's Fish House.
We should be able to enjoy the full moon and its reflexion over the Intracoastal Waterway.

After the break we will ride back to the Publix parking lot mostly facing the moon.
We should be back at around 10:30 PM.

Total distance will be 16.6 miles, enough for a little exercise.

Don't forget to bring along sufficient water and your bike lights. A lock is also a good idea. Please check your bikes (and lights) before the ride.
