Bike Ride: Brooker Creek Preserve to Starkey Wilderness Park (37 miles r/t)
Details
Join us for one of our favorite bike rides with lunch. Total length will be 37 miles. Please make sure that you are able to handle the distance before you sign up for this event.
The ride will be done mostly on bike and paved multi-use trails.
We will start at Brooker Creek Preserve, the largest natural area in Pinellas County. It consists primarily of forested wetlands as well as pine flatwoods and is home to hiking trails, an observation tower and boardwalks.
A short two miles later we will hit the North Pinellas Trail followed by the Starkey Gap Trail.
After 7.5 miles from the starting point we will stop at Starkey Market. It is a favorite among locals with fresh coffee and produce from Florida as well as the best homemade ice cream in the area.
Four miles later we will enter the picturesque Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park with its over 8,300 acres of protected land. The park is known, among others, for its wonderful 7.3 mile long paved multi-use trail that we will ride to the end.
On our return we will stop after 11.5 miles and have lunch at Havana Dreamers Cafe, a popular Cuban restaurant with vegetarian options that offers in- and outdoor seating.
After lunch we will head back to the parking lot.
This event is supposed to be a social event and no race. Please don't schedule anything right after as the ride and/or lunch might take longer than expected.
Please protect yourself from the sun, bring along sufficient water (ideally with electrolytes) and check you bikes before the ride!
As always, if you have any questions or need directions, you can contact us at (917)774-0941.
