Welcome, we can’t wait for you to join us! This is a low-commitment reading group for busy book lovers. We meet monthly to discuss a chosen book over a meal. No pressure, just fun conversation, new friends, and great stories. We do ask that if you must cancel, please do so at least 24 hours in advance as there is a reservation in place. This allows another member to attend if you cannot, and just plain courteous.

This meeting I have chosen the book Small Things Like These, by Claire Keegan. This was adapted into a major motion picture staring Cillian Murphy. This is a short read or listen (2 hours approx for audiobook listeners).

Small Things Like These is award-winning author Claire Keegan’s landmark novel, a tale of one man’s courage and a remarkable portrait of love and family.

It is 1985 in a small Irish town. During the weeks leading up to Christmas, Bill Furlong, a coal merchant and family man faces into his busiest season. Early one morning, while delivering an order to the local convent, Bill makes a discovery which forces him to confront both his past and the complicit silences of a town controlled by the church.

Already an international bestseller, Small Things Like These is a deeply affecting story of hope, quiet heroism, and empathy from one of our most critically lauded and iconic writers.
