Your shoes will get muddy.
Your feet will get wet.
We’ll meet at the Cypress Dome trailhead and hike approximately 5–6 miles, using the Cypress Dome and potentially Caracara trails depending on weather and trail conditions.
Cypress Dome is one of my favorite places to hike during this time of year. The wet season completely transforms the landscape. We’ll hike through beautiful pine flatwoods, cypress habitat, wetlands and stretches of native vegetation that look entirely different when they’re holding water.
This is also a wonderful time to see Southwest Florida’s seasonal wildflowers and native plants, including the flowering plants that support butterflies, bees and other pollinators. As we begin transitioning from the wet season toward our drier Florida winter, you get to see the preserve at a really interesting point in its seasonal cycle.
🥾 COME PREPARED
- Shoes appropriate for hiking through water and mud
- Extra shoes for afterward
- Change of clothes for brunch if you’d like one
- Plenty of water
- Lots of bug protection
- Long pants and a long-sleeved shirt are strongly recommended
- A mosquito jacket is another great option
⚠️ IMPORTANT: REGULAR HIKERS ONLY
This hike is limited to 12 people, and you must have previously hiked with me to attend.
If we have not hiked together before, please do not sign up. You will be moved to Not Attending.
These pre-season hikes are intentionally kept small and are for hikers who are familiar with my hikes, and comfortable with these conditions.
🍳 BRUNCH AFTERWARD
After we finish getting wet and muddy, we’ll clean ourselves up, change our shoes and head somewhere nearby for brunch.
If you love seeing wild Southwest Florida when it’s wet, green and a little messy, this is a fantastic time to experience Cypress Dome. 🌿💦🥾
