Join us for a beautiful evening beneath the stars at Big Cypress National Preserve! The National Park Service is kicking off its 2026–2027 Astronomy Program series, and we’ll be there to experience one of Southwest Florida’s most spectacular night skies.

Big Cypress is renowned for its exceptionally dark skies, making it an incredible place to observe constellations, planets, star clusters, and distant galaxies.

One of the highlights of these programs is the opportunity to look through large telescopes brought by local astronomy enthusiasts, who often join National Park Service rangers to share their knowledge of the night sky. It’s a fascinating chance to see celestial objects up close and learn about the wonders of our universe! Telescope viewing is weather permitting.

🌙 What to Bring

  • Lawn chair
  • Bug spray (strongly recommended!)
  • Red-lens flashlight. Regular white-light flashlights are not permitted.
  • Long sleeves and long pants are strongly recommended.
  • Water and anything else you’ll need to stay comfortable outdoors.

📍 Parking & Meeting Location

Follow the signs for event parking. You’ll be parking in a field rather than a traditional parking lot.

We’ll meet at the program check-in area at 6:00 PM, giving everyone time to get situated before the 6:30 PM start.

🐾 Important Information

  • Dogs are not permitted at the astronomy programs.
  • The program is free and open to the public.
  • Weather: Although the National Park Service may move the presentation indoors if conditions are poor, our Meetup will be canceled in the event of rain. Please check for updates before heading out.

Come enjoy a peaceful evening surrounded by nature, good company, and the wonders of the night sky. Sometimes the best adventures happen after the sun goes down! 🌌
