Differentiable Swift is an experimental language feature that unlocks entirely new capabilities for machine learning, optimization, and more. It gives Swift a capability that is unique among compiled systems languages: compiler-driven automatic differentiation. We'll explain what this means, introduce differentiable Swift, and show some examples of it in action. We’ll also present case studies for how differentiable Swift is used with gradient descent to optimize physics simulations orders of magnitude faster than industry-standard optimizers. No prior knowledge of machine learning is needed, and hopefully you’ll come away excited to try this new feature in your own applications.
