We are planning our QGIS open source workshop. Our member, Tatiana Perry is kind enough to teach a class about QGIS. We will be going over QGIS how-to's, but before we do she needs those RSVP'ing to submit an informational questionnaire to see what level everyone is at and also what you want to learn about the software.
PARKING
Parking will be permitted in any GREEN, RED, or GOLD permit signs, BLACK/PURPLE signed areas will not be available.
WORKSHOP: ROOM #G18
Enter through the main doors facing campus (the main courtyard, fountain, etc.) and walk down the stairs and to the right at the end of the hall OR
Enter through the big red doors that face downtown Austin and go down the spiral staircase/ take the elevator down one level to the ground floor. (It’s a pretty small area and the room should be easy to spot)

Qgis DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS
Thank you everyone for signing up for the Qgis class and filling out the survey. Based off responses it seems like class is going to be pretty free-flowing. I will spend the first half just showing the basics, where tools are, how to load a shapefile, saving info all the set-up stuff. I will go over the specific requests I got in the survey and then open it up to Q&A. Kind of a hey I do this in ESRI how can I do this in Quantum. I will try an answer as many questions as I can, but I am not an expert. So if I don't know we can find out together since we have internet.
Included in this email is a link to Qgis download and the Qgis excercise shapefiles in a zipped folder.

Windows
You have a QGIS installer that will work for you
Mac users
Please follow the steps in 4.1, I know those will work for you.
Linux
Please let me know and i can walk you through QGIS set-up.
If you are a more advanced user please feel free to experiment with the types of downloads.
Also try and open each shapefile in ArcGIS just to make sure you can open them. And the DEM file.
