This September, take your first steps (or continue your journey) toward the dance floors of the past by learning to Lindy Hop! The Lindy Hop is America’s first true folk dance, originating out of the movement & music of ‘20s & ’30s African-American culture. The Lindy Hop soon became the most popular dance during The Swing Era and is still danced every day and everywhere!

In this 4-week progressive series, we’ll explore the rhythms & basics of Lindy Hop, adding some intermediate level concepts for those ready for a challenge.

You do not need a partner or experience to join, just a willingness to have fun while learning something new. Those with partners and experience are encouraged to join, as well!

INSTRUCTORS:
*Melissa started Swing dancing in Auburn, CA in 2000. Her mom signed her up for a Lindy Hop class, totally against her will. A month later, she was performing with a local swing team and dancing three nights a week. At 17, she started teaching Lindy Hop & Country at dance studios and venues throughout the Sacramento area. From 2007 to 2021, she ran and choreographed a country dance team called The Hot Tamales. Melissa recently moved to Las Vegas, and this will be her first series as an instructor!
*Nick (a.k.a "Professor Jitterbug" has taught vintage swing and social dances for over 26 years. Known for his passionate, thoughtful, and rhythm-first approach, he tries to make every class accessible, inspiring, educational and fun.

Whether you’ve never danced a step or you’re looking to add some jazz-age flair to your swing dancing, this class will give you the foundation, history, and rhythm you need to bring the Charleston to life.
