AirVeraCity (Ali Marjovi)
Abstract:
In this talk we will present our smart solution towards environmental monitoring. Through new sensing technologies and advanced machine learning techniques, we are able to provide this solution in a way that dramatically improves air quality measures at a reduced cost. We will discuss how deep learning techniques and probabilistic graphical models were used in modeling air quality data. The output of the models can be used by the community and decision makers to make relevant short and long term decisions to reduce air-pollution in urban settings.
Bio:
Ali Marjovi, computer scientist and co-founder of AirVeraCity, has a PhD in Robotics and sensor networks. He developed smart algorithms using deep learning to generate precise air quality maps of Lausanne streets during his post-doc at EPFL.
Sentiment analysis applied to Finance (Fabio Capela, SamurAI)
Abstract:
Sentiment analysis is the field of machine learning that studies people sentiments, opinions and emotions from written language. In this talk, we will give an overview of the influence of news stories on the behavior of tradable financial assets. In particular, we will discuss two variables that seem to play an important role:
(i) The volume of news and
(ii) The decaying effect of news sentiment.
Bio:
Fabio Capela has a PhD in theoretical physics and is specialized in black hole physics. He has an extensive experience in the industry, where he worked as a data scientist in diverse sectors such as finance, digital construction processes, consulting and allergen monitoring. He is one of the three co-founder of SamurAI, a consulting firm specialized in data analytics and machine learning.
Snowball effect in industry 4.0 - iterative approach to data analytics (Andrzej Skrodzki, Unit8)
Abstract:
Industry 4.0 offers new optimisation opportunities for manufacturing. In this talk we will describe real life factory optimisation case. How can you ensure you can deliver actual value? We were facing such challenges and in our talk we would like to present how we have dealt with this ambitious challenge in an iterative way - from preliminary data analysis until delivering a working, end to end deployed solution that proved to be useful in a matter of days after first release.
Bio:
Andrzej is software engineer in Unit8. Before joining has ha been working among others in Palantir technologies and Microsoft. Andrzej has been working already for customers in Automotive, Chemical and Finance industries which gives him broad perspective on challenges faced by various customers.
pAIrspective (Lionel Clavien)
Digital transformation has become essential and, with it, the advent of artificial intelligence (AI).
If corporate companies are beginning to challenge the potential offered by this additional intelligence, the time has come for SMEs to identify the use cases that allow them to benefit from AI. This is the main purpose of pAIrspective, a project supported by the Swiss association LaData whose aim is to leverage the understanding of Big Data's benefits for our region.
From early September to mid-November 2018, several members of LaData together with stakeholders such as Airccelerate podcast and IBM went through the roads of French-speaking Switzerland to meet decision makers or simple residents and ask: what are WE expecting NOW from AI? At the end of the journey, our exchanges will lead to the publication of a white paper - get to know Swiss #AI - to be published in December 2018.
Participate to the online survey (https://fr.surveymonkey.com/r/pAIrspective-English) and get the first insights of pAIrspective 2018 at the next Swiss Association for Analytics' meetup!
