Details
📣For its next online Talk, the Swisscom Digital Lab is happy to welcome Vadim Paryev from Swisscom.
TALK TOPIC:
📍"Security Aspects of Mobile Communications"
CONTENTS:
🚀Nowadays, people and even machines extensively use mobile communication networks of different generations on a daily basis, for different flavors of voice and data communications. Therefore, ensuring the cyber security and resilience of the mobile networks is very essential for the society. This Talk introduces the modern 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) mobile network architectures and explains their main security-enabling mechanisms, focusing on the most widespread generation 4G/LTE as an example. We will start with the introduction into 3GPP mobile network architectures, their domains and main traffic use cases. Then we'll have a look on the main security challenges and threats faced by the mobile networks. Afterwards, we'll dive into key security-enabling technologies protecting different parts of the network, e.g. radio interface security (Authentication and Key Agreement (AKA) and related algorithms, ciphering and integrity protection for Control and User Planes, subscriber Id protection), network domain and interconnect security (IPSec/SEG), user equipment identification (EIR), etc. In the end we will reference some interesting sources to learn more on the topic.
