Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory Hike

Join for a moderate 2 mile (total) hike to Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory. We will meet at the parking lot then hike a mile south on the Allegheny Trail to the observatory. The hike is fairly steep, but I would consider it moderate overall and appropriate for moderately active individuals in good health. The hike ends at a rock escarpment with stunning views. Two important safety notes: (1) this hike accesses rocky cliffs and you need to be very cautious near them, and (2) the observatory is currently closed, but the hike and view are still lovely.

What to bring:
-Comfortable hiking shoes
-1 Liter of water
-Weather appropriate clothing and warm layers
-Rain jacket if precipitation in the forecast (if the weather looks too bad, we'll adjust the plan - see "Weather Backup" below)
-Sunglasses
-Sunscreen
-Snack
-Any medications you need
-Cell phone (Note: although cell service is good along the hike, you will probably lose service at points on the drive there and back. Please pull up directions before you lose service on the way there and when leaving, get directions before you leave the parking area.)
-Facilities: there are no facilities at the beginning of this hike. If I recall correctly, there is a primitive toilet near the Observatory (i.e., halfway through the hike), but I can't speak to its condition.

Weather Backup: If the weather is bad we will instead meet at Rising Silo Brewery in Blacksburg, VA. I will send out an update around noon the day of the event!
