We’re the ego-free, auditionless, happy-dances-welcome singing community that likes to sing loud and proud. Welcome to Alterna, where we believe singing together is food for the soul.

We believe that singing together is the perfect way to balance out the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. Love belting it out in the shower, the kitchen or the car, and wish you had some company? Live in Sydney’s Inner West and want to find a musical escape for a little me-time?

You’re in the right place. But this isn’t about auditions, performances or adding another high-pressure THING to your week. It’s so much less - and more - than that. Come sing with us - singing experts and rookies alike are welcome.

Get together with an eclectic bunch of fellow musical nerds who love the fact we all look, think and sound wonderfully different. You’ll find yourself accidentally singing like a superstar as we work our A Capella way through a diverse mix of music, lead by Chief Choir Nerd Dr. Naomi Cooper.

We sing an eclectic mix of:

• great indie pop music (including songs by Matt Corby, Fleet Foxes, Tim Minchin, Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, Radiohead, and Ron Sexsmith)
• contemporary folk (like Gillian Welch and The Maes)
• some lesser-known songs by well-known artists (Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Missy Higgins and the Beatles)
• gorgeous gospel and songs from around the world.
