BITCOIN PIZZA DAY 2021

Instead of our usual casual drinks event this month, we're going to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day with dinner at Vapiano pasta/pizza/bar. This is only a few doors further North along York Street from Club York where our casual drinks events take place.

We've made a booking that will be updated according to RSVPs here so please assist us and the venue by keeping your attendance intentions accurate. We will be occupying a reserved area on the restaurant's mezzanine level. Everyone will be able to order their own food via the QR code on the table that links to the Vapiano ordering system.

What is Bitcoin Pizza Day, you may be asking?

It marks the anniversary of the first time Bitcoin was ever traded for anything, tangible or otherwise, when programmer Laszlo Hanyecz, on one of the bitcointalk.org message boards, offered to pay 10,000 Bitcoins to someone who would order him two Pappa John's pizzas.

When this offer was taken up, it marked Bitcoin's transition from something that prior to this had no monetary value at all, the 10,000 Bitcoins being exchanged for around $40 worth of pizza. That was 2010.

As of the time of writing (April 2021), those two pizzas have cost Hanyecz the Bitcoin equivalent of around 750 million Australian dollars. While we salute his sacrifice in helping Bitcoin take these essential first steps, it's a sobering reminder to HODL throughout this phase of explosive technological adoption.

So, come and join Bitcoin Sydney for what will no doubt be another great night!

These social events are the perfect opportunity to meet and get to know members of the Sydney Bitcoin community, network and share ideas, and enjoy a great evening speaking with like-minded Bitcoiners about the only blockchain that matters.

Our normal roster of experts and OGs will be in attendance where there will be more opportunity for discussion than what time permits during our usual presentation-focused events.
