Sydney Bushwalks & Getaways

An approximately 10km walk (over 10,000 steps), at a brisk 5km/h, exploring the parks and foreshore around the CBD. This week we will be walking to King Street Newtown via Sydney Park.

From Stand K we will walk down to Darling Harbour. We will then turn south and walk along part of the Goods Line before turning west and walk past Ultimo TAFE We will then walk through where the Carlton/Kent brewery once was (now Central Park) and then through the back streets of Darlington to Redfern Station.

We will then continue through the South Eveleigh precinct (where the New South Wales Government Railways once maintained their fleet of steam engines) and the back streets of Alexandria to the Sydney Park Hill and its views and lakes.

This is a walk of about 12km from the Collaroy Surf Club to Manly.

The easiest way to get to the Collaroy Surf Club from the city is to catch the B1 Bus from Stand C at Wynyard Park. B1 busses leave every 5-10 minutes from Wynyard Park and the trip takes about 40 minutes. The Collaroy B1 bus stop is adjacent to the surf club.

The walk is partially along well formed footpaths, and partially along the beach. There is also a 1.5km section of rough bush track above the coastal cliff line near North Curl Curl.

We will be having lunch at the cafe at the South Curl Curl Life Saving Club.

If we are lucky we may see some whales.

WHAT TO BRING. Please wear good bushwalking shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, rain jacket, first aid kit and 2L water.

Bungonia National Park is 190 km southwest of Sydney, 140 km northeast of Canberra and 35 km east of Goulburn. Access is via Bungonia (25 km east of Goulburn or 15 km south of Marulan). If entering the town from either Goulburn or Marulan, turn left at the signpost and follow Lookdown Road 10 km to Bungonia NP.

Beautiful camping ground in the bush but with all the convenience of a nice indoor camping kitchen and hot water showers. No camp fires.

We will be walking each day:

SAFETY WARNING. Please stay away from cliff edges and be very careful when walking on wet and slippery rocks. It is not worth the risk to get close to waterfalls or cliff edges to get a better photo, as you could be endangering the lives of yourself and other people.

ACCOMMODATION. Penneshaw. Oceanview Apartments. Will book 2 x 4 bedroom luxury apartments. Ie. 8 bedrooms for 10 people. Kingscote. Bay View Villas. Booked 3 x 3 bedroom apartments.

HOLIDAY ITINERARY. We will fly to Adelaide, pick up a minibus, drive to Cape Jervis and get the Sealink Ferry to Kangaroo Island. We will be staying in luxurious 2 bedroom apartments at Penneshaw and Kingscote for 4 nights and will have plenty of time to explore Kangaroo Island and go for sight-seeing trips and bushwalks at Flinders Chase National Park. We will drive to Victor Harbour on the way to Cape Jervis and McLaren Vale and Hahndorf on the way back to Adelaide.

ACTIVITIES. We will be sight-seeing, bushwalking and visiting lots of very unique places around Kangaroo Island, including Cape Willoughby Lighthouse, Dudley Wine Cellars, Seal Bay Sanctuary, Flinders Chase NP, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, Stokes Bay, Cliffords Honey Farm, Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, American River Oysters, Emu Bay Lavender Farm, Bay of Shoals Winery and KI Spirits Gin Distillery.

OPTIONAL TOURS. Seal Bay Sanctuary, Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and Kangaroo Island Marine Adventures, Swim with Seals & Dolphins.

WHAT TO BRING. Bush walking shoes, hat, sunscreen, swimmers, rain jacket and a good sense of fun and adventure.

HOLIDAY COST. $1650 for twin share rooms. $1950 for single rooms. Includes return airfares to Adelaide, 4 nights luxury 2 bedroom apartments at Penneshaw and Kingscote, 5 days minibus hire, fuel, vehicle insurance, National Park fees, sight-seeing activities and Sealink Ferry trip ($150pp) to Kangaroo Island. Most optional tours are not included in holiday price.

PAYMENT. Please pay Chris $750 deposit by the 31st October 2024 to book your flights, accommodation and seat on the minibus. The $900 or $1200 balance will be due for payment by 30th September 2025.
