What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in developing a creative outlet. We begin with a structured one hour introduction to skills and concepts, and then it's a freestyle pay by the hour creative meetup either applying your new skills under the guidance of an artist, or bring your own project and work with the mentoring and assistance of an artist.
Scratch Art Space is an artist run arts complex in Marrickville with studios, art gallery, and a well-equipped atelier space with easels, drawing boards, tables, and all painting necessities. All tutors are practising artists.

See all- Life Drawing on Saturday MORNINGS in MarrickvilleScratch Art Space, Marrickville
Come along and try drawing the figure. It's a practice that artists use to keep their drawing skills up and a fun thing to do even if you haven't tried it before. There's joy in the simple act of moving charcoal around paper.

DRAW II . Urban Landscapes . Intermediate drawing skills
The above works are all previous students studying this course
All works can stay in our studios throughout this course
-----------------------Drawing II / Urban Landscape Project is a follow up to our Drawing for Beginners Course. This is a 7 week course focussed on an urban landscape on Sydney Harbour. Urban landscapes provide an opportunity to draw structure within the landscape which is a great way for beginner drawing students to segue into landscape and the different drawing approaches for that genre.
The first session is spent drawing on-site in a Sydney Harbour location learning how artists make studies that are useful as reference material for works created and developed in the studio.
Weeks 2 – 7 in this course are spent in the studio with artist Carmel Byrne there to help develop ideas and to experiment further with materials and scale in drawing.
Students provide their own materials for this course and we’ll back up in the studio with any materials that will help extend your vocabulary in drawing along with scale and techniques.
Tutor Carmel Byrne had a studio at this location in the mid 90s and it’s still a very quiet, out of the way location that has close access to the harbour with views of the Harbour Bridge. The above drawing was made at this location in 1995 by Carmel.
