SydDT #99: Designing Tomorrow Book Launch with Martin Tomitsch & Steve Baty

We're lucky to have Martin Tomitsch and Steve Baty talking about their new book Designing Tomorrow and the journey that led to the book. You’ll have a chance to grab one of 20 free book copies that Martin and Steve will be giving away as part of the SydDT book launch.

As designers, we constantly make decisions about what and how we design and who we involve. Those decisions cause ripples that can negatively affect ecosystems and future generations. Drawing on global trends and academic research, the book offers strategic design tactics to drive positive change.

Designing Tomorrow is your ultimate guide, packed with practical tools and strategies to create positive change. Whether working solo, in a small agency, or a big organisation, you'll learn how to embrace planetary perspectives and think long-term, even in a profit-driven world. Discover how to make mindful decisions, transform your design practices, and influence company strategies to leave a positive impact for future generations.

Come join us for some fun and engaging conversations.

Martin Tomitsch
Martin Tomitsch is a Professor and Head of the Transdisciplinary School at the University of Technology Sydney and a founding member of the Life-centred Design Collective.

He grew up on an organic dairy farm in the Austrian Prealps before moving to Vienna to study information technology. While on exchange in Stockholm, he discovered what was then called ‘user-centred design’, which led him to complete a PhD in human-computer interaction and his first academic post at the University of Sydney’s Design Lab.

Through his work as a design academic and educator, Martin advocates for the transformative role of design as a framework to imagine speculative futures and drive positive change. Martin’s other books include Making Cities Smarter and Design Think Make Break Repeat.

Steve Baty
Steve Baty is a strategic designer with over 25 years experience as a business founder, keynote speaker, awards judge, Interaction Design Association (IxDA) president, conference organiser, and UX Book Club founder. He has worked with hundreds of clients in digital systems, e-commerce, UX, service design, and strategic design.

Steve is co-founder of both Meld Studios, an award-winning agency based in Sydney with clients from across the world, and UX Australia, which hosts industry conferences for designers and leaders. Steve is driven by his desire to see a sustainable and just world in which everyone has an opportunity to thrive, well into the future.
