What we’re about
This group is for people with physical disabilities living in or near Sydney. Although all people are welcome to the group. I was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition a few years ago. Initially I could only walk with a pick up frame and had to wheeled to my medical appointments. I am now using a walking stick. I also have vision and hearing impairments which are secondary to my condition.
The purpose of the group is partly social and also to be a social support.. It is a way for people to meet and discuss life’s challenges and learn from each other. However, depending on the interests of the members of the group we can organise accessible book clubs, outings to the pub, movies, theatre, the art gallery, etc.
If members of the group are also interested we could organise inclusive exercise and fitness classes, such as adapted yoga and zumba classes. If you are interested to see what this may look like see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4Qtg4m-lQI
Of course we would have to find an instructor and a venue.
Finally depending upon the interests and size of the group we may also be able to do advocacy. I have already contacted a tech meetup group in Sydney to see if its members may be interested in creating an accessible Sydney mapping app.
Ultimately the group will be very flexible and meet the needs and wants of members.
If you are interested please contact me.
I look forward to hearing from you.
cheers
Susie
