Elm Sydney Meetup

Details

Welcome to the first Elm Sydney meetup for the decade! To kick of the 2020s, we have a full roster of excellent speakers and talks, so come and learn you some Elm over free dinner and drinks!

Full-length talks

  • The Good Form, The Bad Form, and the downright Ugly Form
    Joseph Ni :: @mordraxx

Not to be confused with Intumescent Foam, Military FORMations or frankly, any other english term in the dictionary, this talk is about creating UI Forms in Elm.

As usual, yours truly starts off with some pretty horrendous ignorant design and as we blunder through requirements and explore what the language can provide, we come up with alternatives to the initial design which has it's pros and cons.

This is a talk about how UI Forms has evolved with reuse, flexibility, modularity in mind.
Note: This is a 'share our experience' kind of talk, not a 'we found the way to do forms' sort

  • The Lazy Person's Guide to Elm Performance
    Justin Anderson :: @justosophy

Some practical examples of how to profile and improve performance in an Elm application. Knowing how and when.
Some unexpected examples of performance issues and how they were addressed in an application.
Some impractical examples of improving performance by editing the Elm run time.

Lightning Talks

  • Exercism: Raindrops
    Robert K. Bell :: @incredasterisk

Solution to the Raindrops problem: https://exercism.io/tracks/elm/exercises/raindrops

Convert a number to a string, the contents of which depend on the number's factors.

If the number has 3 as a factor, output 'Pling'.
If the number has 5 as a factor, output 'Plang'.
If the number has 7 as a factor, output 'Plong'.
If the number does not have 3, 5, or 7 as a factor, just pass the number's digits straight through.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Paul & Joseph
