KAYAKING SKILLS COURSES...previous experience is not required.
INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP LESSONS AVAILABLE -
*** Group lessons: $100 per person...minimum 2 per class
*** Private lessons: $120 per person
Children most welcome as long as competent swimmers.
Conducted at locations to suit you: Nepean River / Woronora / Pittwater Narrabeen Lakes.
Kayaking Equipment (at your cost) which I have arranged with hire co at reduced rates for my attendees as required but you can also bring your own kayak (or borrow one) if you have one to save costs.
Hire Kayaks available from Horizonline (02) 4735 2120 $40 per lesson.
MUST be booked prior to your lesson, or else you may miss out.
DESCRIPTION: Invest in a half day or few hours of Kayaking tuition to ensure you get the right advice and ensure you make the best choice with the right equipment whilst boosting your confidence and safety in this comprehensive program by an Industry Professional Instructor and guide.
The prime focus being on Self Sufficiency, this course will also concentrate on assisting others as we venture out with friends and family members, including weekly Sydney Kayaking Meetups.
DURATION: 3 - 4 HRS approx INCLUSIONS: Complete Tuition and advice, also follow up training if required.
Lessons will be conducted at convenient locations around Sydney and where access and hire options are available and suitable at my discretion.
Both sit on top (recreational) and sit in (touring/sea kayaks) welcome.
My courses and guided paddles are designed for the beginner and intermediate skill paddlers; previous experience is not required however.
Course Basics: What you will be taught...Extensive yes, but also fun learning.

Overview and introduction to kayaking.

Equipment Orientation/Dress Code/Hazards/PFD’s/Spray Decks.

Individual Fitting of Participants to Kayaks.

Sheltered beach for dry run paddling exercises.

Paddling Technique including Paddlers Box technique and importance/ (Dry Run)
· Launching – Getting In and out safely.
· Forward Stroke · Minimum Stress Paddling
· Reverse Paddling – 3 points of Reference
· Stopping · Sweep Strokes (Forward & Reverse)
· Draw Strokes (Sideways)
· Low Support or Low Brace. Advanced demo only High Brace Technique.
Edging - Control and Theory
Rudders - Misconceptions and the true usage of these if fitted
Leaning - Posture, adverse conditions, specialized strokes.
Wave Crest Steering - finding the comfort zone.

Capsize Drill - (In water shallow enough to stand in. To be completed toward end of training session)

Self Rescue Options
· Paddle Float Rescue – Practice.
· Assisted Rescues - Practice
· Cowboy / Straddle Re-entry > Sling > Paddle Float Combination > Towing -
Wet Exits and re-entries / Rolling and high braces for intermediate skill levels.
I have full clearance and am compliant with NSW Government – Office of the Children’s Guardian - WWC (Working With Children) number WWC0157169E and I am registered with Paddle NSW and Australian Canoeing including overnight camping guide endorsement.
All waivers and RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT including emergency contact details must be read and signed at commencement of briefings.
Make sure to wear suitable clothing that can get wet, as you will be getting wet doing your re-entry to kayak, bring a hat, sunglasses, footwear NOT THONGS (that can get wet), sun screen, a towel to dry off afterwards and plenty of water and a snack.

All my paddlers and students are required to wear (not carry) an Australian Approved Life-jacket/Vest AS4758 - from
July 1/2016 all kayakers need to be wearing a life-jacket at all times.
The 100metre rule from shore is now gone.... fines have increased to $380
