About us

About us
Sydney Money Basics Meetup Group is a calm, beginner-friendly space for people with little or no finance knowledge who want to understand money and investing fundamentals in plain English — without hype, jargon, or being sold to.

Our mission
Our mission is to help members improve their financial knowledge and confidence with money, so they can make better decisions and build a stronger future. Sharing ideas, supporting each other, and learning together is encouraged.

What you’ll learn

  • Shares (stocks): what you’re buying, why prices move, and how risk works
  • ETFs (exchange-traded funds): diversification, fees, and building a simple portfolio
  • Bonds: what they are and when they actually help
  • Cash: how to think about it as part of a plan

How meetups run
We always start with a short, practical mini-lesson (15 minutes) on one important concept — so you walk away with real understanding, not a sales pitch.
Then we do open Q&A (nothing is “too basic”), plus optional social time after for anyone who wants to chat.

House rules (strict)
This group is about education, sharing ideas, and socialising — no spruiking or selling.
General education only — not personal financial advice.
